Motorhome Repairs and Revamps

As well as Bus Conversions, JY Motorhomes perform repairs and alterations to existing motorhomes and caravans.

We can undertake all aspects of repair quickly and professionally to get you and your motorhome back the road. No job to small. We can also help liase with your insurance company if nesseary.

Recent repairs undertake by JY Motorhomes:

-         a caravan which got damaged enroute to New Zealand

-         lock replacement of a motorhome

-         built new cabinetry to enable more space around island bed area

Updating an existing motorhome is also a popular option.  So rather than buying a new motorhome or doing a complete re-build, John and his team can just modernise the parts you require changing.  Often by just changing the upholstery and carpet, a motorhome can be brought back to life and you will be surprised what a big difference can be made.

Motorhome Conversions

From design layout and colour co-ordination, you are involved every step of the way. John takes the team approach, initially sitting down with each customer to go thru with each customer exactly what their needs are and perhaps advising different options that are available if necessary.

Recently a motorhome conversion was undertaken for a couple who show dogs. John thought ‘outside the square’ and now this motorhome has a custom built dog accommodation section at the rear. A real asset for this family whose dogs are large part of their life.

We do the entire job, so people don’t have to anything once they have dropped the bus off, including the electrical warranties. When customers come and pick their bus up they can just drive without needing to get anything further done.

Especially in the bigger buses, often work such as paneling off some the sides and get rid of the initial windows, is the first thing to be done.  A vital step to change it from looking like a bus to motorhome.

We ensure that all buses converted are stripped right back so that batts can be put in the roof and the walls to insure good insulation.  The carpet on the floors are overlocked around the edges which not only looks good but means the carpet is easy to get up and washed.

For the bedding area, we sit down and talk with people to decide if they want the ‘U’ shaped or a permanent bed set up at the rear of the bus. If you like to perhaps play cards or have a few drinks, it tends to be easier of you have a U shaped seating come bedding area rather than a permanent bed set up and just a couple of seats near the front of the bus. Motorhome owners tend to be very social so we like to advise customers to opt for the 'U' shape.  It comes down to your lifestyle and how you will enjoy your bus.

In 7-8 metre buses, we tend to take the air conditioning out as it tends to be something that is not really used.  We replace the compressor on the engine with a 12v alternator which gives you the bulk of your power. People tend to think that if they have solar panels on the roof they will provide all the power required. Unfortunately this is not true. Having the alternator on the engine, every time the engine is moving the alternator is doing its job and charging the batteries for you.  A lot safer way of keeping your batteries topped up.

We prefer to put drawers in rather than cupboards as it tends to be very awkward to get things from the back of cupboards not to mention safer when driving.  With drawers, you can see everything in a instant. Space is obviously limited in a motorhome, another reason why drawers tend to be the smarter option.

Lots of people initially favour the ovens but Johns own reasearch has found that a lot of people don’t even use their ovens! So ends up being an extra (unnessary) expense. These are the type of things that we we sit down with people in their bus and discuss. Our vast experience can guide people, particulary those who are going into their very first motorhome.

Creating a unique and comfortable motorhome,

yet meeting all your needs.
